The Living Tree and Commemorative Bench Donation Program (PDF) offers you a unique way to celebrate life and create a lasting legacy.
The Living Tree and Commemorative Bench Donation Program lets you celebrate life in tribute to a wedding, birth of a child, anniversary, or to honor the memory of a loved one in a very special way. As an added remembrance , a plaque can be installed by the tree or on the bench. The Living Tree and/or Commemorative Bench will be purchased from funds donated to the FRIENDS of Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation, a 501c3 organization, whose mission is to "Put Our Community in Motion by Enhancing the Parks, Recreation, Arts and Culture Experience!"
Donate a Tree
Throughout the ages, trees have stood as strong life symbols. Trees improve our air quality and beautify our community. Our staff will gladly work with you in selecting the most durable and drought tolerant tree (approved list) and location (adequate irrigation, proper space, and maintenance considerations) in the park of your choice.
By donating a tree to the Living Tree Program, you help beautify our town parks while at the same time:
Plant a Family Tree
Plant a tree to honor the birth of a child, to serve as a symbol of a growing family. Like the tree, the family spreads its roots as it branches out, preparing a strong base for future generations.
Perfect as a Monument
The donation of a tree is a wonderful testimonial to a life well lived. Family and friends will have a living monument for a loved one, which will also provide beauty, shade and landscaping for town parks.
Please allow the Parks Division the opportunity to have your tree planted in either the Spring or Fall seasons to ensure the greatest chance of acclimation. If a plaque is ordered, please allow additional time (6-8 weeks) for the plaque to be received.
Town staff will plant the tree and install the plaque then notify you. Please feel free after that time to plan a site visit or hold a private dedication ceremony. Due to the increased maintenance, placement of decorations, notes, and ornaments on the tree is not permitted.
The tree will become a part of the Town’s tree inventory and will be maintained by the Town. Living trees may be replaced in the future if the tree develops a disease or is damaged.
This program does not remove trees from personal property. Your donation will purchase a viable nursery tree stock that is still in the container.
Donate a Bench
Commemorative benches provide another option to honor or remember a loved one, as well as offer respite to park visitors to help them enjoy their surroundings. Benches can be installed at any time through the year, without guarantee of a specific date, and will be placed adjacent to trails or near specific park amenities. Donors will be notified once the bench and marker have been installed, and will be made aware of its location.
Inscriptions are limited to for whom the bench is in honor/memory, and the dates of birth, death or dedication. Additional inscriptions, religious symbols, extraneous content, plantings, flowers or decorations in the bench areas are not permitted.
Please note, the town will not replace or be responsible for plaques or benches that are damaged or stolen. Prices shown are approximate. Actual prices may vary slightly.
Starting the Living Tree or Commemorative Bench Donation Process
To start the Living Tree planting process, you will need to complete a Living Tree Donation Application. Once your completed application and donation is received by the Town, the funds will be deposited into the Living Tree Program account in your loved one’s name. A letter confirming the donation will be sent to the donor.
For consistency throughout our parks system, plaques will be purchased through a local Prescott Valley business. The plaque is molded in bronze with a brown background and double line edging and is 5 inch by 7 inch in size. The plaque will take approximately 6 to 8 weeks to be completed.
After the plaque is completed, you will be contacted by the Parks Supervisor to discuss tree selection and planting site.
