Purchased by the Town of Prescott Valley in 2007, “Spring Comes Suddenly to Persephone” is a self-portrait of the artist Laurie McKean. Laurie describes the piece in her own words: “Shapes, textures and colors occurring in the natural landscape infuse most of my designs, due in part to my years a biologist. I see a layered world, constantly surprising. The structures of leaf-tip, bone, rock, and muscle meld often with my emotional experiences.”
Every Spring, this artwork has quite poetically become a welcome home to a bird’s nest inside the belly of the figure. If you are lucky enough to experience this piece in the Spring, please be consciences of the birds who call it home!
