Volunteers in Policing (VIPs)
The Department is always looking for volunteers to help with a variety of administrative tasks. In addition to promoting civic pride, our volunteers actually make us more efficient and effective. Because of the help from volunteers, officers can concentrate on doing police work. Volunteers are needed to assist in our Records Division by answering phones and filing reports, maintaining our Vacation Hose Watch program (click here for your application), delivering documents and/or evidence to other law enforcement agencies, shuttling equipment to various facilities, fingerprinting, assisting Animal Control Officers and building small projects. Chances are, if you have a skill, we have a job for you! Our volunteers do not need prior police experience or carry a weapon. For more information, contact Sgt. Mark Posula at 772-5144.

Police Explorers

The Prescott Valley Police Explorer Program is a great way for a young person (ages 13-20, male or female) to get some career experience in the area of police work. The Explorer program, which is part of the Boy Scouts of America, promotes a "hands-on" experience in a variety of careers including law enforcement. Actual Police Officers are the Post Advisors, who meet with Explorers and go over a wide variety of training, aspects of police work and experiences. We also promote civic responsibility and volunteerism. The Department is also and active participant in the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy (NARTA) Explorer Academy. This is a one week dormitory style police boot camp designed for the Police Explorer. For more information contact the School Resource Officers.

Citizen Police Academy

One of the best ways for a resident to get a "hands-on" education as to the various functions of the Prescott Valley Police Department is attending our annual Citizen Police Academy. Residents will not only receive an overview of the criminal justice system to include a course on search and seizure, narcotics and traffic law, but also gain some insight to the various functions of the Department. Included during the course of the academy is a ride-along and an opportunity to go out on our police range and have firearms safety presentation. Typically, classes are held one evening a week for approximately eight weeks. Upon completion, citizens receive a certificate of participation in this very enlightening program.  Check back in this section for the next Citizens Police Academy in the Spring of 2009.

Police “Ride-Alongs”

The Police Department allows members of the community to ride along with patrol officers during their normal course of duty. A copy of the request to ride along and the waiver of liability may be found and printed by clicking here.
