After a nationwide search and extensive interview process, the Town of Prescott Valley has selected internal candidate Casey Van Haren to lead the Prescott Valley Public Library into the future. Van Haren will take the reins on January 3, 2018 upon the retirement of 30-year Library Director Stuart Mattson.

Van Haren has served as the Library’s manager since August 2012, assisting in Library operations and administration. Prior to that she was Library Operations Supervisor at the Glendale Public Library from 2006-2012. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University, which she completed while working full time at the Prescott Valley Public Library.

Deputy Town Manager Ryan Judy, to whom Van Haren will report, said, “We are thrilled for Casey to lead the library amidst constantly changing technology. Our staff is fond of saying that the library is not just a box of books, but a community center for people to gather and learn. Stuart, our current director, has been a steady hand and we look forward to Casey taking that baton and leading the library into an exciting future.”

Van Haren said she wants to continue to develop relationships with government and community leaders to ensure the long-term sustainability and relevance of the library. She sees continued outreach both personally and professionally as a way to bring the importance of the library to the forefront in community discussions.

“I am very pleased to be able to serve the community of Prescott Valley,” Van Haren said. “We have an extremely creative and talented staff that is dedicated to serving the needs of our community by offering new and innovative programming and collections. We all know that Stuart has the biggest heart and has built an amazing library for our town.”

Van Haren added that she plans to make the community the heart of the library, starting with an invitation to the first Coffee with the Librarians and the Director from 9-10 a.m. on January 26.
