PVPD and our Hispanic Community

Bridge of the Community: a message from Police Chief Bryan Jarrell

My name is Bryan Jarrell and I am your chief of police. In 2018, we completed our 4th annual Bridge the Community Event (Puente de la Comunidad) and I anticipate doing many more. I am encouraged to see the number of attendees continue to grow every year. That tells me you, our Hispanic community, trust the police officers in this community, and there is nothing more important to me. Without trust, we have no community, and that is unacceptable. I understand that cultural experiences can form perceptions that seem very real, and sometimes are very difficult to change.

When we first started this event it was called Bridge of the Community. Even though we are keeping the name I hope you will agree that the bridge has been built and I prefer to think of these celebrations as Policing with our Community.

I hope you understand that the officers of this police department firmly believe that we are all one community; standing together to have a Town that is safe and welcoming to everyone, regardless of what your culture or heritage is. Many of your police officers have a vested interest in the success of Prescott Valley because this is their home, too.

I know that the entire staff of the Town of Prescott Valley, including your elected officials, support this idea as well.

To have a trusting relationship with someone means that you feel comfortable coming forward and asking for help when you have questions or concerns. Good relationships mean that your police officers are also comfortable asking you for help.  We must have faith in each other and rely on each other if we are to have a safe and healthy city.

It is very important to me that all residents of this Town are treated fairly and properly; and just as you expect your loved ones to come home safely every day; I expect that my officers will go home safely to their families.

I encourage you to take advantage of our ride-a-long program to see firsthand what we do on a daily basis in the hopes that it will allow you to better understand why we do certain things.  It will also give us an opportunity to get to know you and better understand your culture.

The officers of this department, and I, are committed to working with you. We will provide equal service to everyone.
